TAPING EARS: - The ears start to stand up approximately between a broad range of 6 to 16 weeks. Sometimes the ears will rise up on their own for smaller corgis with smaller ears.  However, most medium size corgis and large corgis with bigger ears will need assistance and help to get the ears to stand up.

A puppy will continue to go through growth spurts throughout the first 16 weeks of life having the ears come up and then fall. The strength of the ears is based on calcium intake and calcium needs that help build the cartilage in the ears.  The time that the ears start to stand up is also the same time that the puppy is being weaned from its mother.

Calcium is needed for both the growing bones and the growing ears.  During the time of weaning, the calcium intake drops, as the puppy is no longer getting the added vitamins from mother’s milk.  To help the issue we give the puppy some milk and or cheese every day for 1-2 weeks and or choose a specific supplement along with other great vitamins, such as Missing Link, Liperderm, and or flavorless Geletin.  It's very important to feed a quality dog food that contains a good nutritional balance while they are being weaned.  The beginning start of life is very important for their over-well being, and for the benefits of the ears.

We also tape the puppy's ears up as they should look. After 3-5 days remove the tape, the ears will be a tiny bit floppy but should stand up now. If the ears still aren't standing up, then repeat the process for another 3-5 days. Please remember to give the ears 2 to 3 days of rest in between each taping.  Also minimizing activities with other pets help, as the rowdy play can sometime knock down the ears.  Below are some example photos for your review.

Another way to tape the ears across.

Improving the life of your dog / puppy through natural supplements!

Improving your dogs / puppy's immune system through natural supplements has many benefits, not just for your dog's intestinal well being, but also for his or her coat and their overall health.

Boosting their immune system will better make their coat grow with a more shiny glim, and keep away those dry flakes and keep the skin moisture packed.

You need to make sure your dog / puppy is eating really high quality dog food (something without grains). Adding Salmon Oil for the Omega 3's daily in their food is a great added supplement to increase the vitamins needed for their coat.

You can also add “Missing Link” daily for a nutritional supplement that can be purchased at almost at any pet store and or veterinary clinic.

A dog's / puppy's immune system does not mature until 12-18 months of age, so it's highly important for the betterment of your new friend to start them off with a great lifestyle.  When started early in life, the immune system will continue to increase and minimize the possibility of ever developing uncontrollable problems later in life.

Should your dog / puppy ever develop an intestinal, and or immune disease later in life, this helps them to better fight the problem, and have a great chance to a better lifestyle.

Food selection:

Immune suppressed dogs require a high quality, all natural food. Select a raw food diet, a cooked diet, or an ultra premium dry food with lots of raw pulverized vegetables. Select organically grown vegetables or use one of the pesticide cleaners available in supermarkets for use on fruits and vegetables. Add leafy dark green vegetables, cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, watercress, bok choy, and carrots (carrots should be blanched one minute to release the carotenes). If you feed raw foods, increase the veggies.

To each meal: sprinkle a teaspoon of sesame seed oil--on the food. This is an important oil for immune function and skin repair. Also add a variety of dried sea vegetables like wakami, nori, dulce and kelp. The sea vegetables should be offered at least 4-5 days a week or even every day if your Giant Schnauzer likes it. Feed fish, boneless poached or canned fish.

Do not use tuna, tuna and swordfish are laden with mercury; sardines, salmon, mackerel or fresh water fish are good choices. When giving fish, cook some white rice and mix with the fish. Avoid grains like wheat or rye-rice, barley and oats are okay.

The following supplements are for the immune system and should be given daily. If you find a product that combines these antioxidants in one capsule, use it:
Zinc: 50mg (chelated type)
Selenium: 200mcg (There is a product called Selene E from Twinlabs. It
contains the right amount of selenium and Vitamin E)
Vitamin E: 400 IU twice daily · Cod liver oil capsules: 3 gel caps twice
daily
One gel cap daily: 25,000 IU of Marine carotene (it is available in health
food stores—another Twinlabs product.
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids: start at 500mg and work up to 3,000mg by
increasing in increments of 500mg weekly. If your dog develops a loose
stool, back off by 500mg and maintain the level.
Nutritional yeast: one tablespoon daily
Lecithin granules: one teaspoon daily
Milk thistle: follow directions on bottle for an adult human.
One-half teaspoon of bee pollen (optional but great nutrients)
Hokamix 30, a vitamin/mineral/herbal supplement: follow directions on
container.

The following herbs are to boost her immune system and fight bacterial infections. Wherever possible purchase organic herbs that are "Standardized."

Olive Leaf Extract: Follow directions on bottle.
Astragulus: Follow directions on bottle.
Cat's Claw: Follow directions on bottle.
Kyolic garlic: Follow directions on bottle.
Pau d'Arco: 4 capsules twice daily.
Grapefruit Seed Extract Capsules or tablets: 225mg daily.
Flax seed oil (organic) gel caps: one twice daily.
Plant based digestive enzymes available at health food stores. Give two
capsules per meal.

Add a few tablespoons of plain yogurt to each meal or give acidophilus supplements. It is very important to maintain good intestinal bacteria when fighting parasites.
